ChargeWise

Welcome to ChargeWise — a program from Great River Energy and our participating distribution partners that will make the evolution
from gas pump to plug-in car easier for those who already own Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
ChargeWise is offering you a better, more economical way to charge your car.

  • ChargeWise outlets charge PHEVs between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when the demand for electricity is low.
  • Members benefit by receiving a reduced rate for electricity during off-peak hours.
  • ChargeWise is a one-year pilot program in 2009-2010 that will help gather information for a long-term program.
  • The first 50 members to install ChargeWise at their home receive up to $500 dollars off their installation,
which could cover the entire cost of the system.

ChargeWise: Process Flow

Who can participate?
To qualify for the ChargeWise program, you must live in the member cooperative service territory and own (not lease)
an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. Electric golf carts, lawn mowers, etc. do not qualify as a vehicle under the
ChargeWise program.

What will be installed in my garage or car port?
To set you up with the ChargeWise program, a state-certified electrician will install a:

  • 20 amp ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) circuit
  • Meter — provided by your electric cooperative
  • Receiver
  • 20 amp outlet and wallplate
  • 25-foot extension cord

A state electrical inspector will inspect work following installation.

Contact your local electrical cooperative for details.
